Fremantle faces aSaturday night Bombers raid, a woundedWest Coast takes on Port at the fortress and the fallout continues from the Floyd Mayweather/MannyPacquiao bout. Buthey, a week's a long time in any sport (except cricket), so let's see whats in store for you sportosthis weekend.
Couch Potato:
Western Forcehome to Waratahs, Saturday (5.40pm Fox Sports);Fremantle home to Essendon, Saturday (6.10pm, Fox Footy, Radio 6PR, ABC; 7.10pm Seven Mate);West Coastaway to Port Adelaide, Sunday (2.30pm Fox Footy, Channel Seven, Radio 6PR, ABC); Western Fever - bye
$10 Friday Flutter:
Whitey (- $10.90) - I'll be super brave (!)and go Western Bulldogs, intoHawthorn, into Sydney, into Fremantle. It's paying about $2.40.
Presto(+$93.30) - Can'tbelieve I lost last week (Iam human),so let's get back on the winning wagon, with a multi of Geelong into Richmond both winning. That's paying $6.40
Stats that Matter:
Whitey - The boozehoundSuns have Nike Elastico Superfly only 24 players to choose from this week against Adelaide. Kind of reminds me of late-2011, when the legitimately injury-struck Dockers had to roll out Jack Anthony for a home thrashing at the hands of Collingwood. Hard to see this weekend ending well for the Gold Coast.
Presto- The big sixof Fremantle's midfield (Fyfe, Mundy, Neale, Hill, Barlow, Pearce) are averaging more than 25 possessions a game, with Fyfe and Mundy the best midfield duo in the comp. Good luck Bombers.
The iconic 17th hole at Nike SB Dunk Low TPC Sawgrass
Don't Miss:
Whitey - The Players Championshiphas never become the fifth golf major that it was originally designed to be. But its venue - TPC at Sawgrass - has a truly iconic (and challenging) 17th hole and a world-class field is assembled. It's worth setting the alarm for on Fox Sports 2.
Presto- Collingwood v Geelong at the MCG (Friday, 5.50pm)... these are the sort of Friday night footy matches we want -a game with so much riding on it.For the Pies, this could cement a top-four spot; for the Cats, a win would put them right back in touch with the top eight.
Monday's Headline:
Whitey - Tiger does a Rory and shakes off break-up to win
Presto- Kyrgios reigns on clay, takes first title
Awkward Reunion:
GWS came far closer than expected last time they met the Hawks, falling short by seven points at the MCG in round 11 of 2014. They're on the improve in 2015, while the reigning premiers have been slightly wobbly. At home (Saturday, 2.35pm), the young Giants could prevail... or perish completely.
You Can't Be Serious:
Brisbane coach JustinLeppitschwas forced to publicly apologise for having a slight altercation with a Lions reserves player, who had toldhis coach Shane Woewodin to f--k off. Leppitschalready said sorryto his players for the unsavoury incident - and that's where it should have been left. This IS footy... all sorts of testerone-filled emotions run highin the confines of club rooms.Arrows of abuseand flickers of frustrationhave been happening since the gamewas first played. That mantramight not rule these daysbut we shouldn't send a coach to the gallows for reinvigorating itsspirit.
Sure Thing:
Presto- In another topsy-turvy season, there's almost no such thing as a sure thing in the AFL. But Port Adelaide should account for a wounded West Coast quite comfortably at home (Sunday, 2.40pm).
Off the SportsVine:
Golf's coolest man, Miguel Angel Jimenez, gets into it with one of the sport's more intense dudes, Keegan Bradley, at the World Match Play Championships. Cheaper than Mayweather-Pacquaio and just about as entertaining!
Tweet of the Week:
Carlton Coach Geoffrey Edelsten arrives at the Logies. #logies2015 pic.twitter.com/8q2wgTDxUn
 Titus O'Reily (@TitusOReily) May 3, 2015
Can't possibly be true. Carlton players would surely give a better effort for Edelsten.
Flashback:
Thursday marked 26 years since Michael Jordan did this to the Cleveland Cavaliers and Craig Ehlo. It remains the benchmark by which all game-winning buzzer-beaters should be measured. Interestingly enough, LeBron James' Cavs are currently tied 1-1 in a playoff series against the Bulls.
