Blazer agreement set to be unseale

An American judge has ruled that the plea agreement between the US government and former FIFA executive turned whistleblower Chuck Blazer must be unsealed.

Several media outlets including the New York Times called for the action to occur last week following the indictment of 14 officials in an investigation into corruption at football's world governing body by US authorities.

In a court transcript being widely reported, US District Judge Raymond J Dearie said: "Because the court concludes that the government has not met its high burden of establishing that continued sealing is necessary to prevent a substantial probability of prejudice to a compelling government interest, the applications to unseal the agreement are granted."

The order was stayed until Monday, allowing time for an appeal or for prosecutors to unseal the agreement.

Blazer, 70, a former general secretary of North American and Caribbean confederation CONCACAF, has admitted - among a series of revelations - that he and other FIFA officials took bribes in connection with the 1998 and 2010 World Cups.

For all the excitement about Australia's emphatic three-day Test win over the West Indies in Dominica, the performance of the top order has come into question.

Coach Darren Lehmann admits it's a statistic that leaves him worried.

"We know that, to perform how we want to perform in each Test match.

"The tail got us out of jail here and they've done that a bit in the past. The batters will be working hard to get it right."

Australia's saving grace has been their tail-enders as it was in Dominica.

Adam Voges, who scored an unbeaten 130 on debut, combined with the last four batsmen to lift Australia's first innings to 318.

In the past year, Australia have added 100 or more runs after being seven down four times.

Fast bowlers Mitchell Starc, Mitchell Johnson and Josh Hazlewood as well as Nathan Lyon have all proven their worth with the bat as well as the ball.

With several members of the batting lineup having their first red-ball bat in the first Test for months, Lehmann is hopeful Australia will be better for the experience in the second Test in Jamaica starting on Thursday.

"We were a little bit rusty the first hour with the ball on the first day because blokes hadn't played in a bit," Lehmann said.

"The same with the bat in the first innings.

"Hopefully all the cricket we've played, with the tour game and the training, hopefully in Jamaica we'll start to settle into that five-day Test mode.

"It's not a concern. It's just about the batters adapting better."

Sir Bradley Wiggins is suited to UCI Hour Record, says Sir Dave Brailsford

Sir Dave Brailsford believes Sir Bradley Wiggins' "absolutely brilliant" pace-management will be the key to his UCI Hour Record attempt on Sunday.

Wiggins will bid to break fellow Briton Alex Dowsetts record of 52.937km and has set a target of 55.250km, which equates to 221 laps of the Lee Valley VeloPark track.

Allen Iverson’s “practice” rant is easily one of the most infamous exchanges a professional athlete has ever had with the media. And more than 10 years later, we’re getting a better idea of why Iverson may have been so testy.

Was he boozing before he took the podium?

Kent Babb of the Washington Post published an Iverson biography this week entitled “Not a Game: The Incredible Rise and Fall of Allen Iverson.” In it, Babb writes that former Philadelphia 76ers coach Larry Brown suspected Iverson had been drinking before he blew up on the media.

“I assumed he went and fooled around somewhere,” Brown said, tipping his hand up like a bottle, Babb wrote in the book.

Former Sixers general manager Billy King was the one who suggested Iverson speak to the media four days after the Boston Celtics had eliminated Philly from the 2002 playoffs. He then left the team facility — presumably to go to a bar — and returned to talk with the press.

John Smallwood, a Daily News reporter who was at the press conference, was convinced Iverson was drunk.

“He was lit. If he had been sober, he would have been able to get himself out of that,” Smallwood was quoted in Babb’s book as saying,per ESPN.com. “He never would’ve gone down that path. Maybe you had to have been around him all the time to know the difference, but we all knew.”

Dale Earnhardt Jr. accepts blame for costly penalty- 'I screwed up'

Two days after finishing a disappointing 14th in Sunday's FedEx 400 benefiting Autism Speaks at Dover International Speedway, Dale Earnhardt Jr. took the blame for not getting the result he felt his team deserved.

Speaking during Tuesday's edition of the Dale Jr. Download on Dirty Mo Radio, NASCAR's most popular driverexpressed his regret for a pit-road speeding penalty that cost him 20 positions and two laps.

After starting in the back because of a rear-gear change, and falling a lap down early, the driver of the No. 88 Chevy had rallied all the way to sixth when he headed to pit road for a Lap 247 green-flag pit stop that ultimately proved costly.

When Earnhardt returned to the track after a pass-through penalty three laps later, he was in 26th and two laps down. Although he managed to move up a dozen spots to finish 14th, it wasn't the outcome he wanted.

I hate I fouled up there and screwed up coming onto pit road and disappointed the guys, Earnhardt said on the Download. We just worked so hard to get all that ground back, and get back on the lead lap, and I sort of screwed it all up. So that's difficult to deal with, but you've got to put it behind you to be able to move on to the next event.
